The daughter of screen legend Peter O’Toole has been banned from driving for three years after she admitted last week to drink driving in Connemara.
Actress Kate O’Toole (47 ) was more than three times over the legal limit when she was detained by gardai following a single-vehicle accident just outside her hometown of Clifden last December.
The award-winning screen and stage star, who was most recently seen as Lady Salisbury in the hit BBC series The Tudors, did not appear at Clifden District Court for her hearing on Thursday but explained her absence in an email which included an apology and noted she was currently working in London.
The court heard that Garda Rory Keating arrested Ms O’Toole on December 13 last under suspicion of drink driving after she crashed her nine-year-old vehicle on the Sky Road just outside Clifden, where she currently resides.
Ms O’Toole admitted to Garda Keating that she had had a few glasses of wine in the pub and her blood alcohol reading showed her levels to be 242/100. The legal limit is 80/100.
Supt Tony O’Donnell noted that Ms O’Toole did not have any other previous convictions and that her tax, insurance, and other details were all in order.
Judge Fahy imposed a three-year driving disqualification on the actress and fined her €500.
