Mervue residents to demand water filtration

Tomorrow Mervue residents are expected to gather outside City Hall to demand the council install a water filtration system.

Cllr Terry O’Flaherty has been behind the push to install a water filtration system in 251 houses in Old Mervue that have been hit by lead contamination.

She said in a letter to Mervue residents that if this system were installed it would “eliminate the distribution of free bottled water, supplying of plastic bags, the removal of the five redundant standpipes and the water tankers”.

The issue of water filtration is to be raised tomorrow at Galway City Council meeting. Cllr O’Flaherty told Galway First that the Mayor has agreed to make the issue a priority issue following the Volvo Ocean Race presentation at tomorrow’s meeting.
