Galway young people encouraged to film their way to €10,000

The young people of Galway are being encouraged to channel their inner Martin Scorsese to create an ‘innovative video clip’ that could win them thousands of euro in prize money.

The Credit Unions in Ireland, in conjunction with Galway-based charity SpunOut.ie, are looking for young people to take part in their ‘What I Love About My Place’ competition, which asks entrants to record a 60-second clip about what makes their place special. What constitutes ‘their place’ is up to each entrant and could be their local village, town, city, their sports club, their bedroom, or any other place they like to call their own.

A total of €10,000 in cash prizes is available to be won in the competition, with first prize winning €4,000, second prize winning €2,500, and third prize winning €1,500. A Viewers’ Choice Award winner, who is voted by you, will also be given a cash prize of €2,000.

Entries for the ‘What I Love About My Place’ competition can be recorded on mobile phones, camcorders, digital cameras, or any other form of recording device. Judges will be looking for inventive, quirky, and/or humorous ideas. Clips cannot be inappropriate or include copyrighted content. All entries will be hosted on a dedicated YouTube web page. The closing date for submissions is November 14.
