Auditions for Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe’s pantomine event of the year, Yummy Mummy will take place tomorrow and Wednesday in An Taibhdhearc.
The pantomine has been written by Risteárd Ó Broin (Dick Byrne ) for Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe and it will play in the Black Box, due to the ongoing works at the Taibhdhearc as a result of the unfortunate fire there in the winter of 2007.
The panto, which will be directed by Taibhdhearc stalwart Éamonn Draper, is the 15th pantomime to be written by Risteárd Ó Broin for this theatre company, and as in the previous years, he has enjoyed the collaboration of Máire Stafford who once again has written the Irish words for the songs, most of which are ABBA standards.
The play tells the story of two intrepid explorers in the Indiana Jones mould: Dr Stanley and Ollie, who are searching in Egypt for the tomb of the notorious female Pharaoh Hatchetsoup, an evil and dangerous woman. They have found a map and are attempting to locate the long lost tomb. Of course there are baddies galore who try to stop them and want to find the tomb and its treasures for themselves, notably Omar Atharla, and his sidekick Ali Fliknife. Then there is the lovely man-hungry Ellie who takes a shine to one of the boys, and a motley collection of weird and wonderful followers.
The show is aimed at children of all ages and their parents and there is fun and music for all of the family.
Tóraiocht an Yummy Mummy runs in the Blackbox Theatre from Wednesday November 26 to Sunday November 30 2008 at 8pm, with matinees taking place on Saturday November 29 and Sunday 30 at 1pm.
Admission is €15/€10 concession, Children (under-12s ) get in for €5.
