At this year’s Electric Picnic, Jape - the solo alter ego of Redneck Manifesto bassist Richie Egan - played ‘Put ‘Em Under Pressure’, the Irish soccer team’s anthem for Italia 90. It brought the house down!
Jape is sure to deliver another stunning live show when he makes one of his regular and welcome returns to Galway when he plays Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh on Thursday October 16 at 8pm.
It’s been a busy year for Richie with the release of his long awaited third album Ritual in June. The album features a number of very strong tracks including ‘I Was A Man’, ‘Graveyard’, and ‘At The Heart Of All Of This Strangeness’. Best of all, though, is Richie’s tribute to Crumlin’s favourite son - ‘Phil Lynott’.
The song was inspired by a strange experience at a Mastodon concert, when people believed they saw some kind of vision of Phillo in the sky. Richie admits it was a “weird moment” but swears it is true.
