Tuam road multi-storey car park gets go-ahead

Galway City Council has given the go-head for a multi-storey car park on the Tuam Road which is expected to ease parking woes by providing 84 extra spaces.

The planning application was lodged by Tom Broderick in late January of this year for permission to construct the car park on the site of Connaught House, Tuam Road. City planners approved the application recently with 16 conditions attached.

The proposed development will consist of the construction of a multi-storey car park over four floors, including half basement, providing 84 car parking spaces with one floor for general purpose office accommodation at roof level.

There will also be connection to public services with ancillary site works. Minor alterations will be carried out to an adjacent existing building to provide emergency escape routes, ESB substation, and the demolition of a two storey retail/office building to the rear of the site.
