Man charged with Westside attack

Gardaí continue their investigations this week after a 36-year-old city man was charged with a serious assault in Rahoon last week which led to a man being rushed to hospital.

Billy McGinley of 118 Claremont Park, Westside, appeared before a special sitting of the Derrynea District Court last week charged with assault causing harm under Section 3 of the Non-fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

He was arrested last Thursday at around 9am in connection with a suspected stabbing at 118 Claremont Park.

Judge Mary Fahy remanded him in custody to appear before Galway District Court next Wednesday.

The victim, who was also in his 30s and from Kinvara, was rushed from the scene to UHG. His condition was reported as critical but has now been downgraded to stable.
