Hospital bosses want to build a new temporary car park on the western end of the UHG campus.
City planners have been asked for permission to build a new 146 space car park next to the paediatric unit of the hospital.
It is planned that the car park will be over half a hectare in size, while access to car park will be from a proposed internal ring road into the hospital grounds from the Newcastle Road.
UHG hope in the long run to create a 900 space multi-storey car park.
