House-hunting Hollywood star Saoirse Ronan, who hails from Ardattin, could have seven acres on which to build a mansion, according to one Borris farmer this week.
The farmer rang Carlow First following the recent front page feature about the star’s property search in the county to let the actress know she was welcome in Borris for the right price.
The farmer, who did not wish to be identified to the locals, said the site wasn’t actually for sale, unless of course Saoirse wanted it.
“I’m just doing this myself, I always imagined someone from America building a big house in the field. It would be lovely and private for her and it’s on town water so there’s no hassle,” said the farmer.
“It’s minutes from the town and looks onto Mount Leinster. But she’s under no pressure to buy it and I’m not under any pressure to sell.”
The site contained in one field would house 45 houses, but the farmer says development isn’t huge right now and that a private buyer could construct an idyllic home on the land.
“But I’d be looking for big money now, I would be looking to buy 40 acres to replace it, so that would be big money.”
Saoirse, who Carlow First reported recently was house hunting in the area, had been looking at newly constructed houses as opposed to a site, but the farmer says the site is there if she is interested.
“There’s golf at the back and it’s close to the River Barrow and sure Borris is beautiful,” said the farmer, who farms dairy and sheep on the land. “It’s like a bit of gold.”
