A Hacketstown man, who has been shuttled between Arklow and Carlow District Court in the last few months on various charges, has received a conviction of verbally assaulting and attempting to physically assault a garda at Arklow District Court.
Stephen McGrath, 24 Hillview, Hacketstown, Co Carlow, who breached a probation bond issued from Carlow District Court, will appear in Carlow District Court to face that charge before being sentenced at the next sitting of Arklow District Court.
Garda Christopher Murray observed Mr McGrath was urinating on a public pathway on March 24 at Dwyer Square, Tinahely.
When he was approached by Gda Murray he said: “Who the f**k do you think you are?” and grabbed a nearby gate to resist any attempt to arrest him.
He became very aggressive and after being forcibly arrested, tried to bite and headbutt Gda Murray while in custody in the patrol car.
Judge Murrough Connellan adjourned sentencing for Mr McGrath until he appears in Carlow District Court for breaching a probation bond.
