Carlow lights up for Christmas

Despite the bone chilling temperature, hundreds turned out on Saturday afternoon to see Santa with the help of Carlow Special Olympics athlete Kate Jordan light up Carlow for the festival season.

“It was a great turn out,” said Fine Gael Councillor Declan Alcock. “The Christmas lights have improved so much in Carlow over the last few years. The Liberty Tree always looks well, but with the lights on it looks especially fabulous. Such a good display will encourage the people of Carlow to come out and bring their children out to celebrate the Christmas season,” he added.

Kate Jordan did the honours wonderfully and received a pre-Christmas gift for her efforts.

The event, attended also by local dignitaries including Cathaoirleach Denis Foley, saw Santa led around town in a beautiful horse drawn carriage before the spectacular countdown to the lighting of the trees.

The lights will remain lit until after the Christmas season, so there is no reason to miss this beautiful display.
