Hundreds of students hear safety advice

Carlow local authorities and Bus Éireann undertook a special community road safety promotion in Carlow last week.

The Bus Éireann School Bus visited primary schools in Ballyconnell, Borris, Old Leighlin, Queen of the Universe NS, Muinebheag, and Green Road NS, Carlow where each class had the opportunity to visit the bus and view a special school bus safety DVD.

Students also took part in colouring competitions and received colouring sheets, bags, and pencils. Councillor John Pender, who is a member of the Bus Éireann board, facilitated this visit to Carlow in partnership with the local authority.

Kevin Flannery from Bus Éireann, Dublin, and John Dunne, local school bus inspector, were on hand to meet all the students and teachers and Carlow local authorities’ part-time road safety promotion officer, John McDarby, visited the bus at Green Road NS.

“These schools were chosen for this series of visits,” John McDarby said, “because they have high school bus passenger numbers and it is vital that every student uses their seat belt and travels in safety on every trip.”
