The Christmas season is usually a season of goodwill but for some it is also a profitable season for robbery.
Gardai are investigating a number of incidents that occurred in Carlow over the past week.
Thieves made off with a 32-inch plasma screen TV from a home in New Oak Estate on Sunday November 23 around 4am. Between midnight and 4am in Tullow, Tullow gardaí say a BMW with the registration 03 CW 2753, car keys and a wallet were stolen from a house in Phelim Wood.
A spate of car robberies last week, much like those that occurred earlier this year, saw thieves making off with a Mercedes from the Kilkenny road, and another car from Highfield Manor.
Meanwhile a couple in their eighties interrupted intruders in their home on Monday November 17 and were lucky to not have anything stolen and they were unharmed in the frightening incident. The intruders made off empty-handed after being disturbed in the house in Whitney Place, Graiguecullen at 6pm.
Gardai say that incidents of burglary and theft are known to rise at this time of the year and are urging homeowners to be vigilant.
Gardai have asked that homeowners lock doors and windows, monitor neighbours who are elderly or infirm, and to keep an eye on neighbours’ homes if they are away on holiday.
Gardaí have said that a lot of crime at this time of year can be prevented with due vigilance.
