It was a highly successful weekend for the two Carlow under-age teams as FC Carlow and the Carlow Youths League both recorded impressive victories. Despite the horrific wind and rain, most of the scheduled matches went ahead as planned.
FC Carlow regained their winning ways as they defeated Waterford United 3-1 in the Eircom League at Hawkins Lane, Tullow last Saturday.
The Carlow Youths League made a highly impressive start to the inter league youth cup as they comprehensively destroyed North East Counties 5-2.
With two teams to qualify from each of the eight groups the three points at home was a more than welcome return for the Carlow youngsters.

The clash of the weekend was the top of the table billing between New Oak and Parkville United in the premier division.
Both teams had a 100 per cent record going into Sunday morning’s clash and despite the inclement weather, the match proceeded as schedule.
Parkville had played an extra game over New Oak, and had led the table by three points going into Sunday’s crunch clash.
Following 90 minutes of enthralling end to end football, Parkville edged a five goal thriller 3-2 as they ended New Oak’s 100 per cent record and maintained their perfect ratio with maximum points from 8 games.
Jamie Farrell has been in cracking form all season and the runway leading league goalscorer is well on his way to the golden boot already at this stage of the season.
The ace striker scored his 15th goal of the season as they recorded three precious valuable points.
There were goals galore elsewhere as Hanover Harps climb to third position in the league table with a priceless 4-3 away victory against Ballymurphy. Fellow Laois contingent Crettyard are behind Hanover Harps on goal difference as they overcame Stretford United 3-2.
The remaining premier league fixture that went ahead saw Kilree Celtic and Burrin Celtic share the goals in a 2-2 draw.
St Fiaccs appear to be stone cold certainties for relegation as they have a 100 per cent record of defeats from their six matches played.
Their intended home clash with Bagenalstown FC fell foul of the weather.

St Fiaccs B recorded a fine 3-1 away victory at Hanover Harps B.
Whites Pharmacy league leader Slaney Rovers struggled to a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Rathanna who are lying second place in the 4th tier league (Dolmen Flooring Division ), while St Joseph’s ran five past Hackettstown B in a 5-2 victory.
The three scheduled Nationalist division games fell foul of the weather, while the Dooley Motors cup round one clash between Thomastown over 35s and their Killeshin counterparts was also cancelled.
The Diamond Woodcraft Youths Division is a very congested league with only 6 points separating the nine teams at this early stage.
Parkville United recorded a 2-1 away victory at Killeshin FC, while New Oak defeated Palatine Celtic in a thrilling 5-3 clash.
