The people of Bagenalstown will have an opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding achievement of Gabriel Shelly in winning a Bronze medal at the Paralympics Olympics held in Beijing this September.
A reception organised by Muine Bheag town council to mark Gabriel’s achievement will take place in Doyle's Railway Bar tomorrow evening at 8.30pm.
The captain of the Boccia team led the way as the first Irish competitor to register a medal during the two week competition.
Following the medal success of three Irish boxers at the Olympics in August, Gabriel and his team-mates made the country even prouder by bringing home five medals in total from the 13th Paralympic Games.
Kilkenny based Gabriel beat hometown favourite Yi Wang of China, 6-2 in front of a packed home crowd.
Gabriel's Bronze medal in his chosen discipline brings his total medal tally to two, having previously won Gold in Sydney eight years ago.
