Eire Og victorious but not without a tough test

Asca 1-10

Asca provided a very stiff test for neighbours Eire Og in the senior football league division 2 game at the Presentation College grounds last week. Asca with three remaining games to play, are on six points and they must win their next games to make the semi- finals of the senior football league division 2. Eire Og are undefeated and they hold a unique record of coming through the senior football league division 1 and division 2 winning and matching each other on league points. At the time of going to press the division 2 outfit are on nineteen points with one game left to play. While the division 1 team are on seventeen points with two games to play. If they win their games they will finish level on points and top of the table in division 1 & 2 .

In the JV Kitchens minor football championship, Tinryland, Naomh Eoin-Miseal, and Eire Og qualified for the quarter-finals of the championship. The winners of the Rathvilly v Clonmore game will also qualify for the quarter-final. That game was postponed until Friday evening and will be played at Brother Leo Park.

Winners round 1

Tinryland 4-7, Slaney Rangers 0-2; Naomh Eoin-Miseal 3-10, O’Hanrahans 1-3.

Eire Og 1-19, Burrin Rangers 3-7. Rathvilly v Clonmore will contest on Friday evening.

Losers round

Fenagh 2-10 Kildavin-Clonegal 1-12; Michael Davitts 0-13 St Andrews 1-3;

Palatine 1-19 Mount Leinster Ranges 0-14.

Slaney Rangers; O’Hanrahans ; Burrin Rangers, Fenagh, Michael Davitts, Palatine, and the losers of the Rathvilly v Clonmore game will go into a draw with the four winners making up the other four quarter final places. There will be three losers who will contest the B championship.

Carlow over-40s

The slightly elder gentlemen are showing the young brigade how it should be done. Carlow over-40s gaelic footballers have already claimed good victories over Longford in Carlow and drew with Dublin at 1-9 each. The Carlow men will travel to Longford on Saturday week and then, the following Saturday, will host the sky blue Dublin men in the Eire Og grounds. The red green and gold men draw their inspiration from Jimmy Dooley, Eire Og, John Kearns, Eire Og, John Smithers, Fenagh, James Connolly, St Patrick’s, Joe Murphy, Eire Og, John Kelly, Palatine, Jim O’Donoghue, St Andrews, Christopher Walsh, Kerry Joe Nolan, Graiguecullen, John O’Brien, Eire Og, Johnny Nevin, Old Leighlin, Peter Byrne Rathvilly, Brian Fagan, Clonmore, Paschal Doran, Graiguecullen, Muiris Bric, St Andrews, Micko Murphy, Fenagh, Hughie Brennan, Eire Og and Pat Molloy, Rathvilly.
