Laura Scriven and Catherine Rudenko (both from St Laurence O'Toole AC ) competed with distinction at the Leinster cross-country championships held in the picturesque grounds of Avondale house, Rathdrum, Wicklow on Sunday last. Laura finished in 4th place in the ladies novice race while Catherine was 12th. These girls were strongly supported by team-mates Pamela Donoghue, Kathleen Kinsella & Maria O'Rourke in the ladies race.
Shane Lawlor & James Griffin (both from O'Tooles ) ran with determination in the boys U-18 race. From a large field of over 80 athletes, Shane finished a credible 9th while James placed 14th. Both these athletes were backed up by team-mates Jamie Hayes & Fintan Phelan to place the O'Tooles’ club high up in the Leinster pecking order.
Daniel Lawlor ran a fine race for O'Tooles in the U-14 age category. Daniel placed 6th in a very competitive field in which more than 120 athletes took part. Team-mates Nathan Walshe (23rd ) & Keith Noctor (38th ) also ran well as did Conor Furey, Cathal Kelly & Tommy Wogan.
In the U-16 boys cross-country event, Graham Power, Conor Fenlon & Leon Carter all ran well for O'Tooles finishing 12th, 15th & 23nd respectively from a large field of athletes. Other runners to perform well included Paddy McCall, Craig Farrell & Daniel Curran. The O'Tooles’ U-16 boys team were unlucky to miss out on team medals placing 4th in the Leinster club championships.
The U-14 team of Niamh Buggy, Shannon Lawlor & Zaneb Mohammed won bronze medals at the Leinster championships. Leah placed 20th while the other three girls finished in the 30s. These girls were supported strongly by Vera Nekrosova, Sarah Dermody, Orla Gordon, Kate Connery & Kelly Hutton.
