The 2010 All-Ireland Final build up will not only be remembered for the Cats drive for five but also the miraculous recovery of Henry Shefflin’s cruciate ligament.
The Ballyhale Clubman defied all odds to make it back just in time for one of the biggest days of his hurling career. The county and most of the country were in shock with the initial news that Henry Sheffflin was ruled out of Kilkenny’s quest for five in a row and the devastation and headlines that followed swept the country. However, miracles appear to happen and especially with the help of Limerick physio Ger Hartmann. The physio has become the toast of Kilkenny and supporters across the country.
Hartmann performed an act akin to a miracle by returning Shefflin to fitness after a career-threatening knee ligament tear.
Shefflin headed to Limerick for two weeks after his heartbreaking injury, setting up in a house in Milford Grange and attending sessions with Hartmann in his International Sports Injury Clinic in UL's Arena.
Now, just a few weeks after injuring his knee, Shefflin is set to play for Kilkenny in the All-Ireland Final this Sunday, thanks to Hartmann's treatment.
This is not the first time Hartmann has helped a player, he worked on Munster out-half Ronan O'Gara helping him recover from a similar injury in 2005.
