Carlow soccer star Padraig Amond of the famed Shamrock Rovers and a former county Carlow hurler, has been called up to the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad for next week’s friendly match against Lithuania.
Amond replaces Cillian Sheridan of Celtic who has withdrawn from the squad.
He told the Carlow First '' I haven’t really had a chance to think about the under-21s because I have two club games this week and I’m trying to concentrate on them before I get my head around the Ireland game, I’ve been really busy all week so I don’t know much about the player I’m replacing either’’.
Padraig scored Shamrock Rovers 4,000th league goal in a 4-0 win over Galway United on September 14 of 2007.
He earned his first cap for the Republic of Ireland U-21 game in Austria on August 19 of this year and
followed this up with a second cap in Bulgaria. He made his first start against Portugal for his third cap in the
international under-21 friendly.
