Elderly in Carlow receive cash boost

Two Carlow organisations dealing with the elderly have been given a cash boost this week by John Curran TD, Minister of State (with special responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy and Community Affairs ) at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

The NCBI has been allocated €1,000 for services for the elderly and a generous €4,320 was allocated to St Catherine’s Community Services Centre. The funding is part of a nationwide allocation of €222,000 for 60 applicant organisations under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People.

The purpose of this grant is to encourage and assist the community’s support for older people through the community-based provision of socially monitored alarm systems and security equipment such as sensor lighting, window locks, door locks/chains and smoke alarms.
