Speaking after the announcement the Green Party deputy leader said: “This announcement is good news for the job of maintaining clean water and waste water treatment in Carlow.
“The fact that the minister has doubled the national allocation for operating new water and waste water treatment plants is a sign of the new government’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards in safe, clean water.
“This significant funding will ensure the county’s water infrastructure is modern and maintained and will go a long way towards ensuring the problems of non-potable water are not experienced in Carlow again.”
She said €87,000 of the funding will go towards the local authorities’ operation and maintenance costs on recently completed water and wastewater treatment plants and €267,000 for quality sampling by the local authorities to establish compliance with national and EU standards for drinking water and waste water effluent.
