Music Minds - a three day music industry festival

MUSIC MINDS, a three day festival of debates, films, live performances, guest speakers, and workshops for those interested in the music industry, its lineage, and how it is changing as technology advances, takes place this month in Doolin, County Clare.

The festival, which was created by musician and producer Simon O’Reilly, and Happenings producer Peter O’Brien, takes place from Friday January 17 to Sunday 19.

This year the festival will look at connecting different fields of live creative arts. There will be a full day workshop on Resolume Software taught by A-Li-ce, a visual mapping artist from Berlin; a full day Ableton live workshop by Cork producer Bantum; a joint Resolume and Ableton live performance workshop; and a screening of Seamus Murphy’s A Dog Called Money documentary on the making of PJ Harvey’s The Hope Six Demolition Project album.

There will also be a master class with London producer Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Jon Hopkins, David Holmes); audio mastering with leading Irish mastering engineers; and computer programming with University of Limerick’s Dr Kerry Hagan, who will lead Ireland's first patching circle. The debates will deal with gender imbalance in the music industry; how artists, promoters and festivals can strive to be more sustainable; and as cities become more expensive for artists to live in, there will be a discussion on promoting music from rural Ireland.

There will also be live music from Daithí, Susan O’Neill, Bantum, Ships, Shaklak, Homebeat DJs, Solkatt DJs, A-Li-ce, Emma Langford, and others.

Tickets are available via . The Full Sh’bang (access to workshops, demonstrations and live performances) is €45. The Evening Live Shows (Friday and Saturday) are €27.
