An extraordinary thing happened in the Hungarian city of Gyor on St Patrick’s Day, March 17 1697. A painting of the Virgin and Child, brought to the city 42 years previously by Bishop Walter Lynch, a member of the esteemed Lynch family of Galway, began to ‘weep copiously’ during Mass. Despite having been wiped clean with linen cloths (one of those cloths is still preserved), it continued to exude ‘a bloody sweat’ for three hours.

The countdown is underway for the amazing Lisa Canny's show in Castlebar.  After a very successful recent Late Late Show appearance, Lisa is set for a Mayo homecoming show next Saturday, February 25 at The Garbos Venue in Castlebar.

Mayo native Lisa Canny began showing a big interest in music from a very young age, teaching herself tunes on the piano, and she will be bringing her talents to Castlebar on Saturday February 25 as part of the Finbar Hoban Presents series.  Having noted her musical ability Lisa’s national school principal, Sean Nestor, presented a then five-year-old Lisa with a small banjo and encouraged her to take classes. Bernie and Holly Geraghty taught Lisa for 10 years, passing on to her a great understanding, love, and passion for traditional Irish music.

What a tumultuous political year it’s been! It began with a sense that despite much turmoil and insurgency across the globe voters would shy away from the radical choices and that something akin to the ‘status quo’ would prevail. It ended with Madonna with no sense of irony berating the President-elect of the USA for engaging in sensationalist acts and rhetoric in order to generate publicity.

One of Europe’s top eighties acts, Delorean, will take to the main stage at Monroe’s Live on Friday September 4.
