Mayo Association Dublin awards open for nominations

Nominations are now open for the 2020 ‘Mayo Person of the Year’, ‘Meitheal of the Year’ and ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year’ Awards, which will be presented at their annual awards dinner on Friday, February 14 2020 in Dublin’s Ballsbridge Hotel.

The annual awards night serves to recognise and acknowledge those individuals and organisations who are making a significant difference within our communities. All proceeds raised will be in aid of Western Care.

To qualify for the ‘Virginia Gallagher Mayo Person of the Year Award’ the nominee must have been born in Mayo or be of Mayo parentage, have lived in Mayo for not less than seven years and have made an exceptional contribution to Mayo or its people.

The ‘Meitheal of the Year Award’ is presented to a voluntary group or organisation based in Mayo, a majority of whose members were born in Mayo or are of Mayo parentage, and who have achieved the greatest distinction or done most for the county or its people.

The ‘Young Mayo Person of the Year Award’ is presented to a young person who must be under the age of 25 (as of 1 January 2020 ), who was born in Mayo or has lived in Mayo for not less than seven years. The award is to recognise and acknowledge the positive influence which young people can have on their peers and on the lives of others.
