This new project will encompass the existing Coast Road between the mini roundabout at the top of Main Street, Oranmore, to the entrance at the Oranmore Train Station carpark.

“I am pleased to see progress on this particular piece of infrastructure for Oranmore. The condition of the present footpath is quite poor and there is no cycleway whatsoever. After I previously secured funding to alleviate the flooding on the Coast Road and have lighting installed, this new facility will ensure that people can safely walk and cycle to the train station,” the Oranmore native said.

Vote for those who propose to shape the society you want

Thu, Jun 06, 2024

It is Friday, June 8, 2029. Five years hence. On that day too, the electorate will be going to the polls in their droves to pass judgement on those of you who were elected in the elections of the summer of 2024.

I hope that whoever is writing this editorial on that week or passing judgment on the term in whatever form public comment takes at that time, does not have to use the line of “Galway has tremendous unrealised potential.” That they do not have to write on the possibilities that existed but has now passed. That we do not have to talk about missed opportunity. Or that the society you have created is one that is lacking in cohesion and equality of opportunity.

TG4/Whakaata Maori partnership to uphold cultural values and exchange resources

Thu, Jun 06, 2024

TG4 and Whakaata M?ori are delighted to announce the signing of a Relationship Agreement aimed at fostering a strategic partnership to uphold common values and achieve shared outcomes through the exchange of resources, knowledge, and services. This landmark agreement, signed at the 45th Celtic Media Festival in Cardiff, represents a major milestone in enhancing the connection between the M?ori and Irish-speaking communities.

Alan Esslemont, TG4’s Director General, said; “TG4 was recently honoured to have the Aotearoa/ New Zealand Ambassador to Ireland, Trevor Mallard, as a guest at Gradam Ceoil TG4 in Limerick and we are now delighted to strengthen our ties with Whakaata M?ori, the M?ori television service. Within the history of global colonisation, the Irish people have been both the ‘dispossessed’ and the ‘dispossessors’ and I believe that we have much to discover from the experiences and world-view of the M?ori people. The parallels are evident to me between te reo M?ori and an Ghaeilge, their communities of speakers and their revitalisation efforts. In addition, TG4 and Irish media strategy can learn much from media policies concerning M?ori broadcasting and other Aotearoa/New Zealand media.”
