Sibling harmony to sound at lunchtime concert

Naomi and Matthew Berrill to play classical, jazz, and anything in between

AN UNCONVENTIONAL musical journey from Russian composer Alexander Borodin to American jazz singer Billy Holliday can be expected at a forthcoming concert from musical siblings Naomi and Matthew Berrill.

Naomi and Matthew Berrill play the next SAP Music for Galway Lunchtime Series this Thursday [October 15] in the Hotel Meyrick, Eyre Square, at 1.05pm. Naomi is a cello player and singer, currently based in Florence where she works as a freelance musician. As well as her solo work, which included the release of a solo album last year, she has also collaborated with cellist Giovanni Sollima, the New York City Ballet, the Crash Ensemble, writer Stefano Benni, and numerous dance and theatre groups, such as Virgilio Sieni, the current director of the Biennale Danza in Venice.

Matthew graduated with a masters degree in music performance in May 2010, specialising in jazz saxophone, clarinet, and composition at the Royal Conservatoire, Den Haag, The Netherlands. He is a member of Ensemble Eriu, and has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland, Avignon Jazz Festival in France, and throughout Ireland, and has recorded with ensembles based in Ireland, Holland, Denmark, and Norway. He also plays traditional Irish music on the guitar and violin.
