Galway Arts Centre to host National Gallery Study Day for Leaving Cert art students

The Galway Arts Centre will host the National Gallery’s Study Day for Leaving Cert Students in the Nuns Island Theatre next month.

On Tuesday February 2 Helen Monaghan of the National Gallery of Ireland will present a lecture covering Irish and European art from 1000AD to the present day. The lecture functions as an intensive revision sessions focusing on key points, and handouts for each theme will be provided.

Afterwards, students will be brought to Galway Arts Centre where visual arts officer Maeve Mulrennan and gallery assistant Katie Wheatley will give a lecture on art appreciation.

Art appreciation is the third section of the Leaving Cert History of Art paper. The event is sponsored by the Galway County Council Arts Office.

Bus subsidies are available for rural schools. For more information contact the Galway Arts Centre. This event is aimed specifically at students sitting the Leaving Cert Art History exam in June 2010.
