Druid’s The Cherry Orchard to be live streamed to cinemas

'This is an exciting project which will showcase Irish theatre to a larger audience across Ireland and the world'

IN A first for an Irish theatre company, Druid’s production of Tom Murphy's version of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, will be live streamed from the Black Box Theatre, to cinemas across Ireland and the world.

The screening is a collaboration by Druid, Element Distribution, and More2Screen, and will take place on Thursday March 5 at 7pm. The Cherry Orchard, a play about land, legacy, and the struggle between tradition and change. It is directed by Garry Hynes, and will star Derbhle Crotty, Garrett Lombard, Aaron Monaghan, Rory Nolan, Marty Rea, Ian-Lloyd Anderson, Síobhan Cullen, Megan Cusack, Peter Daly, Rachel Feeney, Helen Norton, and John Olohan.

"This is the first time an Irish theatre company’s work will be live streamed in cinemas," said Andrew Lowe, Element Distribution company director, "so it really is a fantastic opportunity to work with another independent Irish company to make this happen."

"This is an exciting project which will showcase Irish theatre to a larger audience across Ireland and the world," said Druid artistic director, Garry Hynes. "It is a privilege we can do this live from Druid’s home alongside our Galway audiences."
