GYT to stage Pulitzer prize winning play Wit

Production is being staged as a fundraiser for Galway Hospice

A CELEBRATED, but exacting professor of metaphysical poetry, Vivian Bearing has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. It seems her life is nearing its final chapter.

As she submits herself to an experimental treatment, Vivian approaches her illness with the same uncompromising rigour she brings to bear on the sonnets of John Donne. Through it all she comes to reassess her life and her work with profundity and a moving wry humour.

.

This is Margaret Edison’s Pulitzer prize winning play Wit, which will be performed by Galway Youth Theatre, in a production directed by Andrew Flynn, in the Town Hall Theatre on Friday March 8 and Saturday 9 at 8pm.

The play is a striking and sharply funny reflection on the frailty of existence and of the complex relationship between knowledge and love. The Irish Times called it, "a deliciously erudite, amusing and affecting script”.

This production is being staged as a fundraiser for Galway Hospice. For tickets contact the Town Hall (091 - 5697777, www.tht.ie ).
