Galway's annual Hiroshima peace event takes place on Sunday

Event to feature music, song, dance, origami doves, peace politics, and ringing of Hiroshima bell

The annual Hiroshima Peace Event - marking the dropping of the atom bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima by the US military in 1945 - will take place in Eyre Square this Sunday at 1pm.

The event, which will feature music, song, dance, origami doves, peace politics, and the ringing of the Hiroshima bell, is being organised by the Galway Alliance Against War. All are welcome to take part and attend the event.

The guest speaker will be Frank Keoghan of the People’s Movement. He will give a short talk entitled, 'No Euroshima No PESCO', which will examine the growing militarisation of the EU through the Permanent Structured Military Cooperation. He will highlight how the EU’s and Ireland’s annual military spend is set to rise dramatically from 2021 as Germany and France seek to create a European army.
