The game of soccer in Salthill really began with Christy Gilbert. He formed a club in the early 1940s called Salthill Crusaders and they played for several years with some success. Some of the players associated with the club were Harry Lupton, Donal Murray, Frank Lydon, Arthur Stephens, Brendan Collins, Tommy Stephens, Billy and Leo Shaw, and Donie Kelleher.

Next Monday night (May 15) Aire Stáit Seán Kyne TD sa Roinn Ealaíon, Oidhreachta, Gnóthaí Réigiúnacha, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta will announce the Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh category winners and the overall winner for 2017. Twelve Galway businesses on the Gradam Gearrliosta, are very busy preparing for the special awards ceremony taking place at 6.30pm in the Salthill Hotel. This event has become an important feature in the Galway calendar and this year, it will mark the pinnacle of Gaillimh le Gaeilge’s celebrations of 30 years in business.

Gradam finalists to be announced next week

Mayor Noel Larkin, will announce the finalists of Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2017 at 11.30 am, next Tuesday, April 11 at a press event which will take place in the Eyre Square Centre, Galway. Last month, Gaillimh le Gaeilge, which has been running the Gradam for the past 15 years in association with the Galway Advertiser, unveiled the 18 businesses in Galway city that have put themselves forward for this year’s award.

Highest ever number of new entrants for Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh

Gaillimh le Gaeilge, in association with the Galway Advertiser, is delighted to announce that 18 Galway businesses and organisations have entered Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2017. The Gearrliosta of Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2017 will be announced at a press event in the Eyre Square Centre on April 11. Bronnadh Ghradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh, a special awards ceremony which will be held in May to announce the category winners and the overall winner of a business package valued at €23,000, will mark the pinnacle of Gaillimh le Gaeilge’s celebrations of 30 years in business.
