No progress for Ballyvary Garda Station

Fine Gael Leader, Enda Kenny, TD, has received information from the Justice Minister, Dermot Ahern, TD, that the construction of Ballyvary Garda Station will be progressed only on the basis of accommodation priorities of An Garda Síochána.  The Minister confirmed that alternative Garda accommodation has been provided in Ballyvary but made no solid commitment to ensuring the provision of a new permanent station.  This has been raised in the Dail on countless occasions in the past but little or no progress has taken place despite previous commitments over the years, said Deputy Kenny.

Westport doesn’t meet CCTV criteria

Mayo Dáil deputy Michael Ring has again raised the issue of having CCTV cameras installed in Westport. However, Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has informed the Fine Gael spokesperson on Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht affairs, the town has not met a number of qualifying criteria to get approval for the scheme.

Commercial competence gained through experience at the coalface is essential to successfully negotiate the current economic challenges. In any major public organisation the people at the helm are appointed on ability gained through experience of working at a high level in business.

Why are we such a nation of begrudgers?

Why can’t we just be happy? Be happy that for once our Government has made the right decision. Be happy in the knowledge that we’re doing the right thing. Be happy that our country can provide safety for those who deserve it. Be happy to know we can return the favour, the gift of freedom, to our global neighbours.

Minister’s decision not to reopen Harristown House a major blow

The decision by the Minister for Justice and Law Reform, Dermot Ahern TD, not to reopen Harristown House as a treatment centre for people with addiction problems has been described by Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony as a major blow to many young Mayo people.
