Network Mayo, the networking organisation for women in business, professions and the arts, will launch its 2015 calendar of events with a thought provoking event on Tuesday, January 20 in Hotel Westport.
Managing director and founder of LEAP, Mike Gaffney, the guest speaker on the night, will give an inspiring presentation about staying motivated in 2015.
“We are delighted to have a high profile speaker of the calibre of Mike Gaffney joining us for our first evening of the new year,” said Network Mayo president Toni Bourke. “Mike continues to inspire groups and organisations and hopefully the Network Mayo calendar of events, which we are launching on the night will also inspire the people of Mayo in 2015,” Ms Bourke added.
Mr Gaffney’s talk, which focuses on understanding the power of habits, looks at how people make resolutions and plans but unless you understand the power of your habits you will eventually revert back to the old ways of performing and thinking.
According to Mike: “It’s not until you change and are aware of the power of habits that you can really change and implement successfully your new resolutions and new motivations.”
Mr Gaffney’s area of expertise is leadership development. Working with leaders of organisations throughout Ireland, he has established a strong reputation in assisting leaders to successfully demonstrate leadership and drive business forward.
“It is critical that leaders understand their role and develop a strong management team to implement their defined strategy,” explained Mike, who is regularly invited to speak on leadership at conferences and seminars, including individual organisations and groups, chambers of commerce, ISME, and Skillnets.
Mr Gaffney has validated his concepts on leadership with a number of key clients and through his involvement with the NUI Galway rowing team. This team has broken the mould in rowing by winning multiple medals at international regattas and world championships – an unprecedented success in Irish rowing. He has also supported the executive members of NUI Galway’s sports clubs to develop their individual and collective leadership through interactive workshops and dedicated mentoring.
The event, which commences at 7pm in the Mayo Suite of Hotel Westport, is free of charge. The 2015 membership for Network Mayo is now open and costs €125 with a 10 per cent discount for anyone who joins before March 31. New applications will be accepted on the night.
