Comedy, A Bit on the Side

Conal Gallen stars in his own comedy play this weekend at the Ballina Arts Centre. The two-act comedy farce, writeen by Gallen and his son Rory, centres on the household of Bridie and Willie Murphy, a couple who have fought the way of marriage for more than 30 years.

Cajun music, Sarah Savoy’s Hell Raisin’ Hayride

Sarah Savoy, ‘The Queen of White Trash Cajun’, finishes her Irish tour on Sunday night in Matt Molloys, Westport.
The Louisiana-born musician and singer fronts a four-piece group to form the band Sarah Savoy’s Cajun Raunchy-Tonk, delivering their own brand of country, rock, punk, and attitude while still maintaining the traditional Cajun sound.
Doors open at 8pm. Tickets €10.
Visual art, Mean/Appendices - An exhibition
Custom House Studios, Westport, last chance this weekend
This weekend is your last chance to take in an exhibition by Will O’Kane, Mean/Appendices, at the Custom House Studios at the Quay in Westport. The exhibition closes on Sunday.
Genres such as portraiture and still life are used to consider themes such as the construction of identity, repetition, painting as metaphor, difference, and also the use of painting to explore ethical concerns.

Drama, Dancing at Lughnasa,
Kilmeena Drama Group, Kilmeena Hall, 8pm, Friday and Saturday
Kilmeena Drama Group present their production of Brian Friel’s ever-popular plan Dancing at Lughnasa tonight and tomorrow night. Set in Co Donegal in 1936 in the fictional town of Ballybeg, the play is told from the point of view of Michael Evans, recounting a childhood summer spent at his aunt’s cottage.
Tonight and tomorrow night’s performances bring to an end a four-night run of the drama.
Country music, Mike Denver

Country singer Mike Denver comes to Castlebar this weekend. The popular showman has recorded 11 albums to date and released four DVDS. He is sure to pull out all the stops for this concert and entertain with his large repertoire of old favourites as well as modern country hits.
