Mayo County Council has not taken any action similar to that of Wicklow County Council where individual homeowners have been pressed for the payment of unpaid development levies by developers, but it is “watching this space”, the February meeting of the Castlebar Electoral Area was told.
Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne raised the issue and asked if Mayo County Council had done anything similar or if it was going to do so. Director of services for Mayo County Council Seamus Granahan responded, “We have been working with receivers and banks to get levies paid, we haven’t pursued any one individual. But we are taking a very hard line with this and the levies are a condition of the planning permission and the conditions have to be fulfilled for houses to be sold.” Cllr Kilcoyne again asked had the council considered a similar stance to Wicklow for the future. Mr Granahan told him, “We’re watching this space.”
