A number of legal challenges to the granting of planning permission for the construction of a number of sections of the Corrib Gas pipeline were settled by the High Court yesterday.
The action had been brought by Peter Sweetman and Monica Muller of Rossport South, Ballina, Co Mayo and An Taisce.
The challenges had been brought on the basis that the pipeline would go through several areas of special interest which are governed by the EU Habitats Directive.
Challenges were also made to the consents given by former Minister for Environment Pat Carey and current Minister for Environment Phil Hogan.
The heritage protection agency An Taisce had also brought a case against the foreshore licence which had been grated by the current incumbent of the office of the Minster for Environment.
The action was withdrawn on the eleventh day of the hearing when the State settled with the parties.
