Fine Gael Leader, Enda Kenny, TD, has welcomed the decision to improve the broadband speeds at Cornanool National School just outside Castlebar. The Department of Education and Science have confirmed to the Fine Gael Leader that they will shortly be signing a contract with a new internet service provider. Once the contract is signed, it is expected that it will take six to eight weeks to complete. This will entail the provision of a new mobile broadband facility that will provide 1MB per second broadband in comparison to the much smaller capacity already available at the school.
Deputy Kenny said: “I have received assurances from the Minister that the contract will hopefully be signed by the end of January which will see the school benefiting from the increased broadband speeds by mid-March. This is the primary school that I formerly attended when growing up and I welcome this decision to improve the ICT facilities following my representations on behalf of the school’s Parent Association.”
