Chambers Ireland has this week announced that nominations are now being invited for the 2009 Excellence in Local Government Awards. The awards are run in association with the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government. Now in their sixth year, the awards acknowledge and encourage best practice and constructive initiatives by local authorities.
Announcing details of the awards, Ian Talbot, Chambers Ireland chief executive said: “These awards provide a unique platform to showcase the positive relationships that exist between businesses, chambers, and local authorities. Every sector faces significant challenges and local government can play its part by facilitating cost effective but excellent services.”
Awards will be presented for a total of 14 categories covering areas including: Arts and Culture; Outstanding Customer Service; Energy Conservation; Waste Management; Partnership with Business; and Social and Community Development. Awards will also be presented to the Local Authority of the Year and, new to 2009, the Town and Borough Council of the Year.
