Eight Mayo sides made their way into the last 32 of the Connacht Junior Cup last weekend, with at least one more to join them and potentially another to make it ten, when two games which didn't go ahead last weekend take place over the next few days.
Last season's beaten finalists, Manulla, saw off Mervue United 4-1 in Carramore with Gary McHale and Gerry Canavan both hitting the back of the net twice. They led 3-1 at the break with McHale hitting his two goals in the opening 45 minute and Canavan getting the first of two penalties he put away before the short whistle. Manulla's reward for that win is an away trip to West United B in the fourth round of the competition next month.
Ballyheane were 4-0 winners in their local derby clash with Snugboro United, a hat-trick from Nathan Reilly-Doyle and a Sean Kilcoyne goal was enough for Ballyheane, who hit three goals in the second half to book their place in the next round, where they will take on Galway outfit West United in round four on the road.
Claremorris had an impressive 4-2 win over Carrick Town in Concannon Park last weekend, Finian Brady hit three for the south Mayo men with Ronan Commons getting the fourth. Claremorris laid the foundation for this win after taking a 2-0 lead inside the opening six minutes, with Brady bagging his first of the day and Commons getting his goal for the day in that early salvo. Claremorris will be at home in round four when Galway Hibs come calling to Concannon Park.
Westport United made short work of Sligo side Merville United, seeing them off 4-0 on the road. United led 3-0 at the half-time break, with Jesper Frisch, Eoin Conway and Peter Corcoran getting the early goals and Phil Keegan adding the fourth midway through the second half. It's another northern road trip for United in the next round where they have been pitted against Cliffony Celtic in the last 32 of the competition.
Super League champions, Castlebar Celtic, ran out 3-1 winners in Galway when they saw off Loughrea Rams with ease. The Hoops' had goals from Johnny Cocozza, Mark Howley and Jordan Loftus to thank for their win, which sent them into round four, where they will be on the road again when they face Boyle Celtic.
Ballina Town had a 3-0 walk-over win over Glenview Stars and they will take on Salthill Devon at home in round four next month. Ballyglass needed extra time to see off Kilkerrin United and the central Mayo outfit will be at home to the winners of this weekend's meeting between Swinford and Corrib Celtic. Conn Rangers also had a walk-over 3-0 win registered in their favour, when Mac Dara conceded their game against them last week and in the next round they have been drawn out to face Gort United on the road.
There are three Mayo sides slated to be in round three action this weekend, with the all Mayo derby between Ballyhaunis Town and Partry Athletic down to take place at 2pm in Station Rise and Swinford on the road to face Corrib Celtic at the same time.
