Launch of the Inishturk Island Loop Walks

The Inishturk Island Loop Walks will be officially launched by Councillor Joe Mellett, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, on Monday April 20 at 4pm.

The walks are themed as coastal and were developed in partnership with the following stakeholders: Inishturk Community Council, Mayo County Council, FÁS, Fáilte Ireland and Mayo County Development Board.

Anna Connor, Walking Development Officer with Mayo County Council outlines that that the two walks are known as the Lough Coolaknick Loop and the Mountain Common Loop. The Lough Coolaknick Loop is a 5km relatively easy waymarked trail; the terrain consists of surfaced roads and sandy tracks. The Mountain Common Loop is an additional loop off the Lough Coolaknick Loop. This walk is classified as moderate in terms of difficulty, and it is 8km in length. The terrain consists of sandy tracks, hillside and cliff edges.
