Another fantastic musical season has ended for the cast and crew of award winning Claremorris Musical Society as they recently closed the curtains on their 13th annual production – “Big, The Musical”.
Audiences young and old were entertained over four nights at the Claremorris Town Hall and Theatre by a cast and crew of over sixty people who worked tirelessly and enthusiastically since last September to put on this very uplifting and highly entertaining stage production. Based on the hit movie ‘Big!, starring Tom Hanks, this was a new and slightly different style of show to past productions by CMS and its members were delighted with the response every night from four wonderful audiences!
A spokesperson said the Society also welcomed the National President of the Association of Irish Musical Societies, (AIMS, ) Mr Seamus Power and Chairperson of AIMS Western Region Mr Feargal Kavanagh to the production, "both of whom commented on the high level of enjoyment clearly visible from the cast on stage! The energy and enthusiasm of every member of the teen chorus was particularly noteworthy with both lead boys -James Fletcher (Billy Kopecki ) and Jack Mannix (Young Josh Baskin ) really discovering hidden theatrical talents! Stellar performances by the adult leads Ciarán Hennelly (Josh Baskin ), Sonja Stevens (Susan Laurence ), Karen Ronane (Mrs. Baskin ), Ronan Egan (Mac Millan ), Michael Goulding (Paul Seymour ), Aishling Costello (Ms. Watson ), Vivienne Lee (Abigail ), Mary Dempsey (Diane ), Ciarán Kiely (Zoltar ) and Tara Niland (Mrs. Kopecki ) all added to a wonderful nights entertainment of superb singing, dynamic choreography and classic comic timing."
Claremorris Musical Society extends thanks to all involved, including the Production Team of Deirdre Lee (Musical Director ), Donna Ruane (Producer ), Jay Molyneux (Choreographer ) and June Allison-Keane (Production Manager ), Stage Manager, Dave Keane and his hardworking backstage crew, Ciaran Kiely of ‘Gander Gowns’ Costume Hire, the musicians, John Wright at Stagewright Set Design & Construction, Paul Kelly at Indigo Lighting assisted by Gearóid Heraghty, Alan Dunne on sound, the staff at Claremorris Town Hall and Claremorris Drama And Fringe Festival for their help with raffle/programme sales; with thanks also to the parents of all the talented teens for their patience, time and taxi-ing, to its loyal patrons and sponsors and to those who worked away quietly putting up posters, gathering raffle prizes and drumming up sponsorship, "and of course to our four wonderful audiences who laughed, encouraged, applauded and commended us", added the spokesperson.
