Comerford calls it a day on his inter-county career

Local hero Martin Comerford caused quite a stir last week when he announced his retirement from inter-county hurling at the ripe old age of 32.

Comerford has always been one of the most popular Kilkenny hurlers ever because of the workrate he brings to every game.

Kilkenny's loss is O'Loughlin’s gain, as Comerford will concentrate all his efforts with his club side, who of course are Leinster and county champions.

For the record Comerford’s inter-county career earned him six All-Ireland medals, nine Leinster medals, and five National League medals. In that time he has also captained Kilkenny in 2004, won three Kilkenny County Championships and two Leinster Club Championships. Not bad for a lad who never played underage for Kilkenny.

Everyone in St John's Parish and beyond would like to thank him for representing their club and their parish with such distinction throughout his career. Martin Comerford, one of life's gentlemen, will continue to play for O'Loughlin Gaels and help out the club wherever he can.
