Boys, oh boys — Kilkenny’s first babies of decade give boost to the local male population

Eight of the nine first New Year’s babies born in Kilkenny this year were all boys giving great hope for a top class Kilkenny hurling team once the boys come of age!

Kilkenny’s first baby was born to Jane and Jim Fallon on New Year’s Day at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny.

David Fallon weighed in at 9lbs and was born at 7.35am on Friday morning January 1, 2010.

David’s proud dad Jim is originally from Westmeath and his mum, Jane is from the town of Carmarthen in Wales.

The couple met in Birmingham and tossed a coin to decide whether they would live in Wales or Ireland. Jim won the toss and they moved to Ireland.

The couple who are married six years, now live in Kilmoganny with their two daughters who were also born on matching dates.

Megan aged five was born on the 9/9, while Caitlin, aged five was born on 11/11! David was born on 1/1. The proud parents are delighted with their newest arrival.

The details of the seven baby boys that followed David are as follows:

A baby boy was born at 8.39am to Fiona McCusker of Knocktopher, Co Kilkenny; at 10.39am to Emma Murphy of Carlow; at 17.34pm to Helen O’ Dowd of Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny; at 18.18pm to Lonita Pujate of Carlow; at 22.20pm to Cáit Madigan of Thomastown, Co Kilkenny; at 21.34pm to Leah McCullough of Callan, Co Kilkenny and at 21.34pm to Margaret Gunning of Kilkenny.

The total 2008 figure for births at St Luke’s General Hospital for Carlow/Kilkenny was 2,193. Up to the end of November 2009, there had been 1,959 births recorded.
