Outlook for furniture retail is positive

Ikea is the most recent company to announce the opening of a new store in 2009. The Ikea store is set to open on Monday July 27 in Ballymun in Dublin. In late December EZ Living at Terryland Retail Park opened up in a new location on the Tipperary road in Limerick.

The coming year may be an unsettled one for most retailers but not an elimination of Irish strength. Spending is down but this isn’t shocking. According to EZ Living, people are still buying but the only difference is they are becoming more conscious of value and quality for money. Customers now demand that retailers add value and act competitively. This pressure on companies will force them to provide their best offering to the customer.

Ireland should be proud of its business people who are expanding and flying the flag for healthy competition in the furniture industry.
