EU Commissioner Maire Geoghegan-Quinn will be the guest speaker at BPW Galway’s annual summer lunch on May 16.
Business & Professional Womens' Galway club president, Moyra McMahon, says the summer lunch may be one of the last opportunities to hear Máire Geoghegan-Quinn speak to an audience “before she embarks on her well-deserved retirement from public life at the end of this year”.
“Máire Geoghegan-Quinn has served Galway people at local politics from 1975, also as a TD in Dail Eireann to 1997 when she became the first woman cabinet minister since the foundation of the state,” Ms McMahon says.
“Her role at European level began in the year 2000 and she currently holds the post of European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science.”
The annual summer lunch will take place on Friday May 16 at the Ardilaun Hotel from 12 noon with a champagne reception followed by lunch and music, and a raffle of which the proceeds will be presented to Cystic Fibrosis Galway.
“This year's summer lunch is particularly special as BPW Galway will be celebrating being chosen to host the BPW European Congress 2019 with the support of Fáailte Ireland.”
Some 500 delegates are expected to attend the congress.
