Speeding motorists on the Ballymoneen Road are posing a serious danger to pedestrians coming from the Ashleigh Grove and Monalee Manor estate entrances.
This is the view of Fianna Fáil Galway City West candidate David Burke who is calling on the Galway City Council to take action on the issue.
According to Mr Burke, more than 10 cars in a three hour period in the evening were hitting speeds of greater than 40kmph.
“All it would take is for one driver not to be observant of passing pedestrians for there to be serious consequences,” Mr Burke said.
He is calling on City Hall to introduce speeding measures along the bottom of Ballymoneen Road, where a bus stop is also located.
“We are trying to encourage as many people as possible to use public transport,” he said, “but we are essentially placing commuters at risk by failing to address this problem.”
