MAEVE HIGGINS and Gearoid Farrelly will be taking to the stage of the Róisín Dubh this Saturday for Fun For Freedom, a night of stand-up comedy to raise funds for PREDA.
PREDA is a children's charity based in the Philippines that strives to free children from adult prisons and child prostitution. Founded by the Nobel Peace Prize nominated Fr Shay Cullen, PREDA has worked to protect women, children, and human rights since 1969.
The charity has recently become involved in supporting those affected by Typhoon Haiyan, with a team of social workers linking up with recently orphaned children and providing food relief.
To help raise funds for PREDA, Maeve Higgins (“Like a Shakespearian court jester, her daftness masks perceptive truth-telling” - The Sunday Times ) and Gearoid Farrelly (“The next big thing in comedy” - Irish Independent ) will take to the stage.
On Saturday, Maeve, along with athlete Catherina McKiernan and the Galway All Ireland winning camogie teams, is taking part in The Run for Freedom in aid of PREDA at 12 noon on the Ballybrit Racecourse. The public is welcome to take part or watch. Register online at www.runireland.com
Doors for the Róisín Dubh show are at 8pm. All proceeds will go to PREDA. Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, from the Ticket Desk at OMG, Shop Street (formerly Zhivago ), and The Róisín Dubh.s
