A car understood to belong to James Ryan, who has been missing since October 22, was found burned out close to Monivea on Tuesday. Gardaí were this week working to identify a body found in the vehicle.
Widespread searches and appeals were launched last week appealing for information on the whereabouts of Mr Ryan (39 ), who had been living close to Monivea, and his car, a gold Nissan Almera, which he had been seen driving on the day he disappeared.
The search was stood down a week after Mr Ryan went missing, when the car was discovered in a wooded area near Abbert, Monivea, on Tuesday morning. While human remains found in the back seat of the vehicle have yet to be formally identified, they are believed to be those of Mr Ryan.
Gardaí have said they are treating the death as a tragedy, and have thanked the public for their assistance in the search.
