A DIVERSE range of artistic approaches and methods will be on display in four exhibitions which have just opened around the city.
Too Cute by the award-winning Galway artist and animator John Jennings is in the Westisde Library, Seamus Quirke Road, until November 4.
Some images are hand drawn, others created digitally. “The idea was to show the contrast between the two artistic methods,” said John, “one involving pens and pencils and the other a computer. Regardless of the method the images have the same result: Cuteness.”
Home by Sketchy Inc (aka Shane O’Connor ) is running at the Town Hall Theatre bar until November 17.
Shane has been working as Sketchy Inc since graduating from Cluain Mhuire. He is a successful print maker in Dublin. His work takes streetscapes from around Galway and Dublin and transforms them into colourful scenes to remind the viewer “why they loved that place to begin with”. See www.sketchyinc.com The Renzo Café on Eyre Street is hosing Magda Noskowska and Jola Biedrzycka. Magda says her art is a journey “inside my mind” which results in “surreal and symbolic images on paper”. She works in acrylic on canvas. Jola works in batik and has studied in the University of Arts and Crafts in Poland and the Pedagogical University in Krakow.
Also showing is Robin Jones’ I am shapeful and gracely, a creature of the air I’d say which runs in the 126 gallery until November 2.
Jones uses wood and bolts from DIY shops, as well as paper and cloth to make three dimensional objects and wall based works. The resulting objects have a fragile quality. They are often modular structures, re-makable, with the parts interchangeable. See www.robinjones.ie
