A city man will undertake a major fundraising walk this month in aid of a Dublin hospital.
Mikey Regan from Shantalla will walk from Malin Head to Mizen Head for the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital.
“I am on a mission to raise money for babies born with broken hearts,” says the big hearted man who begins his 605 km journey on Friday August 16. He is appealing to the public to support his initiative.
“All donations big or small are very much appreciated and go directly to the Coombe as my expenditure will be covered by myself, ie, B & Bs, food, etc.”
Donations can be made directly by logging on to www.mycharity.ie/event/mike_regans_event Established in 1826, the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital is currently approaching nearly 200 years of caring for women and newborn babies.
Many high profile people have visited the hospital, including Joseph Lister, the pioneer of antiseptic surgery (1857 ); Her Majesty Queen Mary (1911 ), former presidents of Ireland, Mary Robinson, (1998 ) and Mary McAleese (2001 ), Professor James J Heckman, Nobel Laureate (2007 ), and President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins (2012 ).
The hospital became the first Irish women’s healthcare institute to establish its own website. This has proved to be a valuable information facility with more than 25,000 hits a month from site visitors as far away as Singapore and Brazil
